Just like there are many different forms of story and communication, there are many different forms of writing and editing. I’ve outlined the basics of what I can help you with below, but please contact me if you’re having trouble fitting your project into one of these categories.

Put ideas into words

This means you have nothing written down quite yet—maybe a few chicken scratches—but the words and ideas are mostly in your head. I listen to you, ask you questions and get an understanding of what you’re looking for. Then I get to writing and you get back to your other work, knowing your ideas are out of your head and onto the drawing board. This could be blogging, ghost writing, or writing for print.

What this includes:

Free Consultation: We chat (I mostly listen). I hear what your needs are and scurry back to my computer to write up some recommendations.

Recommendation Sheet: I give you my recommendations sheet and we talk next steps | $25 (becomes free upon signing a contract with me)

Contract:  You think I’m a little loco, but still love me; I send you a contract specifying what my work is and when I will complete it/what you will be paying and when you will need to have it paid.

Dang-good Writing: I write up whatever we agreed upon. |  $0.20-.30¢ per word*

One-re-write: You take a look and give me feed-back, and I make a few tweaks as needed  | free*

Develop your work

This means you have something written up already— this may be a novel, sales language, website lingo or a business newsletter. Again, I ask you questions, listen for what you’re looking for and then start to buff your language to make it shine. This is usually called developmental editing.

What this includes:

Free Consultation: We chat. I ask a lot of questions to make sure we’re on the same page and know what you’re looking for.

Two page read-through + mini sheet: You send me two pages of your writing, and I do a thorough read-through and send you a “mini-sheet” (1/2 – 1 page of what I notice in literary elements like style, themes, character development and tone.)| $15 (becomes free upon signing a contract with me!!)

Contract: You are wooed by my unassuming nature and slightly sassy correspondence; I send you a contract specifying what my work is and when I will complete it/ what you will be paying and when you will need to have it paid.

Thorough Read-through with internal suggestions: I do a thorough read-through of your work and offer developmental suggestions and comments throughout the document. Includes “big sheet” (1-2 pages) of what I notice in literary elements like style, themes, character development and tone. | $35 per hour*

Refine your work

This means you have your words all laid out as you like them; you feel confident in your themes, style and syntax. You just need someone to go through it with a fine-tooth comb looking for spelling and grammatical errors you may have missed. Depending on the scope of your needs, this can be called basic copy editing or proofreading.

What this includes:

Free consultation + free 1-page edit: We chat about what your needs are, and you send me 1 page of the document you need edited. I edit it and send it back within 2 business days.

Contract: You are convinced you’re the last normal human being alive, but like my work nonetheless. I send you a contract specifying what my work is and when I will complete it/what you will be paying and when you will need to have it paid.

Basic edit: I do at least two thorough read-throughs of your work and make grammatical, spelling and stylistic corrections as I go. I may offer a few basic suggestions on the tone and content of your work. | $20-25 per hour *
